Expert Piano Instruction Customized For Your Child’s Ability
Whether your child is a kindergartener just starting out or a teenager with some experience, we’ll provide a patient, focused environment where they can learn, grow, and create at a pace that makes sense for them and their needs.
Our unique approach focuses on developing deep and creative talent. We don’t just teach our students basic skills, we teach them how to approach and solve musical problems so that they can take an active role in their own musical education. This experience-based learning helps students understand how to work through tough pieces of music in structured ways. We include sightreading, figuring out rhythms and working on different techniques. We believe that combining this practical approach with patience is the key to successful musical education and we are happy to adapt to each student’s ability.
Though in home and online lessons are available, for lessons at Faith Presbyterian’s choir room, pianos are available for students to warm up before lessons so that the entire lesson is spent on instruction, rather than preparation.

Learning Is Fun
Why Learn To Play The Piano?
Learning To Play Piano Has Benefits That Carry Over Into School And Life
Aside from the obvious benefit of being able to play music that you love to express yourself and bring joy into your life and the lives of others, learning to play the piano has many scientifically studied benefits. According to medical researchers at Northwestern University, and elsewhere, playing musical instruments can help slow and even reverse the decline of brain processing power, hearing loss, and memory loss. Our minds and our ears don’t work as well as we age, but the stimulation of playing a musical instrument keeps our mental and auditory faculties sharper. The key takeaway here is that if you feel like you’re too old to learn the piano, you may have it backwards. Rather than worrying about whether you’re young enough to learn, you should focus on how much younger learning and playing the piano can make you feel.
Obviously the main effect of piano lessons is the ability to play the piano, which as piano teachers, we’re pretty big on. But the value of these lessons extends far beyond the musical skills our students learn. According to a study published in the journal, Psychology of Music, a weekly piano lesson improves self-esteem among children and helps them be more confident. Playing the piano has also been shown to engage the part of the human brain responsible for creativity according to studies that monitored brain activity of piano players while they played. Another study conducted by Brown University’s Center for the Study of Human Development found that young students who learn to play the piano do significantly better than their peers in mathematics performance. Similar links have been found between musical education and improved reading ability, according to a study published in the journal, Educational Psychology.
Develop Deep Problem Solving Skills
A big reason why learning to play the piano is associated with improved creativity and academic performance is that learning music means learning how to solve problems. With a new piece of music, you’re seeing black and while marks on a page that denote rhythm, tempo, volume, emotion and feel, as well as sounds. Training to be able to take marks on a page and translate them into vibrant musical tones requires critical thinking, patience, discipline, and strong coordination between your mind and body. The skills students develop when learning to play piano teach them how to approach problems at school and in life. These abilities are deeply impactful and not a bad bonus alongside learning how to play beautiful music with confidence.
Engage With The Tallahassee Music Community
Community is at the core of everything we do at Adam Ravain Piano Studio. Aside from the obvious fact that music is an art form meant to be shared, involvement in the wider Tallahassee music community opens up new opportunities for our students. Lots of Tallahassee based musical groups and organizations meet at Faith Presbyterian, including various church choirs, hand bell choirs, as well as secular groups like Tallahassee Young Actors theatre group. This opportunity to collaborate and interact with other young musicians gives our students amazing opportunities for community involvement and expanding their musical skills and understanding.
